For more than 30 years, Dirk McDermott has pioneered successful investment in energy technology and service companies. He founded Altira Group in 1996, with a vision of investing experienced capital into burgeoning oil &gas technology companies and building businesses hand in hand with the entrepreneurs at the helm. Mr. McDermott has served as Managing Partner for Altira’s funds I through VI, which have deployed more than $1B with partners in over 50 companies. Both withAltira and prior, he has served on more than 30 boards, including Infrastructure Networks, FlexGen Power Systems, MicroSeismic, RigNet (NASDAQ: RNET) and Canyon Offshore. Before founding Altira Group, Mr. McDermott was a Co-Founder of Aspect Management, where he managed the oil & gas portfolio of General Atlantic Partners, including General Atlantic Resources, Sanderford Offshore and Brigham Oil & Gas. Additionally, he founded, funded and managed early-stage oil & gas technology enterprises that were early leaders in the application of 3-D seismic technology, including Southtech Exploration, MB Exploration, Coherence Technology, Geographix and Interactive Seismic Imaging. Mr. McDermott began his career at The Louisiana Land and Exploration Company (LL&E), where he spent over a decade in globally-focused technical, operations and leadership roles, including Chief Geophysicist. Mr. McDermott was the Founding Director of Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America (RPSEA), the only US federally-funded oil & gas R&D group. He is a former chairman of the Stanford Petroleum Investment Committee, a participant of the Colorado Governor’s Canada Trade Ambassador & Venture Capital Advisory groups, a former Trustee & Treasurer of Graland Country Day School and the current Chairman of the High Line Canal Conservancy. Mr. McDermott received a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Geophysics, both from Stanford University.
